Staff Training

Direct Service Professionals (DSP’s) provide guidance and direction for each individual we serve while being a positive role model. DSP’s must be a minimum of 18 years of age and demonstrate an appropriate responsibility level necessary to ensure they will provide quality care.

CCRI staff learn how to apply the FISH principles at work.
They are learning it's okay to have fun while working.

All DSP’s are certified in CPR, First Aid and Minnesota Medication Administration. They also complete extensive training upon hire, and on-going training and education to better meet your individual needs. CCRI’s hands-on training meets and exceeds state requirements. All DSP’s must also pass a comprehensive criminal background check.

Our agency’s general employee orientation is conducted in a classroom format. We have found that this is the most successful way to teach the volume of information we expect them to retain. Once they have completed three full days of general orientation, they then proceed to training at the department level. It is in the department training that they learn how to apply the information from general orientation to meet the needs of each individual they will care for.

We expect staff to provide the same quality of care that they would hope to receive. We do this by teaching staff that we are all just “temporarily abled.” Potentially, we are only an illness or accident away from having a disability and needing CCRI services. This is a visual way to help them understand the quality of care we expect them to provide.

Long-term DSP’s are also required to complete extensive annual training. We continually encourage them to focus on their personal growth and development. This helps keep our staff enthused and competent to care for all your needs. We offer many interesting training sessions throughout the year.

Many CCRI staff are competent in assisting individuals with bathing, tube feeding, positioning, turning, transferring, monitoring seizures, behavior modification and administering medications. Our extensive training helps to ensure staff retention and delivery of quality care. A solid training program is an essential ingredient in providing individualized services to meet your needs.
