Camp H.E.R.O. Camp H.E.R.O. (named for the goal of "helping each other remove obstacles") is an annual, three-day summer camp available to individuals served by CCRI. It’s a place where people of every ability and age can have fun and enjoy the outdoors. And all the while, their parents, guardians and caregivers can feel confident that all their needs are being addressed.

Camp H.E.R.O. offers boating, fishing, hiking, swimming, crafts and many more individualized activities. Outside of Camp H.E.R.O, these activities are frequently denied to those with disabilities because of the time and cost involved to make it a safe experience. Camp H.E.R.O. is held each summer at Camp Courage North—located on the shores of Lake George near Park Rapids, Minnesota. Courage North is the only camp in our area that caters to the needs of people with disabilities. It provides a safe camping experience for people with accessibility issues, medical fragility or behavioral needs. Each log cabin has a dayroom with a fireplace, a large bathroom complete with an accessible shower, and a bedroom with bunks.

CCRI provides staff trained to work with individuals who have a disability. The Camp H.E.R.O. team is an enthusiastic group of men and women who are selected for their interest and dedication to helping people.

Camp is designed to be a stress-free environment with lots of flexibility and no strict schedules—just fun in the sun. During camp orientation you will hear counselors tell the campers, "This is your vacation. You have two days to do whatever you want. Enjoy yourself." Campers can choose from a variety of activities, and can attend as many or as few as they choose.

CCRI’s medical personnel also attend camp to ensure that it is a safe and healthy experience for everyone.

The fees only cover part of the costs of the expensive endeavor. Donations allow us to offset the costs so people of all income levels can enjoy camp.
