CCRI Polar Plunge on Giving Hearts Day

Thursday, February 8, 2018, 4–6:30 P.M.
CCRI parking lot, 2903 15th St. S., Moorhead, MN.

The idea to host a Polar Plunge was conceived as we searched for an exhilarating and unique way community members could get involved and support people with disabilities at CCRI. It’s only fitting that the event is held on Giving Hearts Day, our communities biggest day of giving!

The first group of CCRI Plungers was a hearty bunch who were excited about the possibility of doing something that took their breath away. They plunged so those supported by CCRI would have the opportunity to dive into life.

Fast forward five years and some things have changed—our hot tub now seats 12 (not just 4), our changing areas are heated, we have sleigh rides, and a photo booth! The impact of the plungers has grown—In 2014, $11,000 was raised while in 2017, more than $18,000 was raised.

Some things have stayed the same. The dollars raised still provide opportunities that help people achieve their potential and thrive as members of our community. The needs are great and are as unique as each person we support. When you jump into that icy cold pool, you will emerge with a heart warmer than you thought possible.

Register by Monday, January 29 to be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Step #2—Share the fun—form a Polar Plunge Team.

You can participate individually or put together a team. Get those creative juices flowing—form your team and throw on some costumes! Grab your friends, co-workers and family members and Plunge together.

Step #3—Spread the Word.

Tell your friends about what you are doing on social media—follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get the latest announcements and news about the plunge. Use #GivingHeartsDay and #CCRIPolarPlunge to join the conversation.

Step #4—Raise money.

This is the best part! Every dollar you raise helps a person with a disability supported by CCRI.
Set a goal—and surpass it. Your hard work is going to enhance the lives of people with disabilities.
Raise money by sharing your registration/fundraising page with your networks on social media. Your supporters can donate to you or your team through that site. If you have supporters who don’t like to donate online, you may use this pledge form to collect cash/checks (please have your checks dated 2/8/18). Cash and checks can be turned in any time before the event or at registration.

Step #5—Remember to bring the following to the Plunge.

  • Warm clothes to change into (heated changing areas will be available)
  • Footwear
  • Towel
  • Any cash or check donations you may have collected
  • Your cheer squad

Frequently Asked Questions

What Do I Wear?

Individuals and teams are encouraged to be creative with costumes—bathing suits are not required. Remember to bring warm clothes to change into (heated changing areas will be available), footwear, and a towel.

What if I’m Chicken?

You can still get in on the action! Register and raise at least $75 in pledges (or you can pay it yourself) and get an event shirt while watching others take the plunge.

Are Children Allowed?

The event is family-friendly and children are encouraged to come along. Kids make the best cheerleaders! Everyone can enjoy campfires, food, and sleigh rides!

What do I do if someone wants to support me but doesn’t want to donate online?

Checks and cash collected count toward your fundraising total too! You can enter offline donations in your profile on the Fundraising site (email Anna at if you need help doing this) so cash and checks will show up on your online total. Please have checks made out to CCRI and dated 2/8/18. Any cash or checks collected may be turned in any time before the event or at registration.
