Being a Part of Something Bigger

By Jake Schweitzer, CCRI Intern

Aunna began working at  CCRI in November 2016. She had previously worked as an animal groomer but after an unfortunate injury  to her hand from two feral cats, she was forced to change her career path.  “I had to make quite the career change.  But at this point in my life, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I love my coworkers, the people we support and knowing that  I am able to help someone.”

Aunna really enjoys the variety of activities she gets to accompany people with. “I love that I can go shopping with someone to pick out  perfect pink nail polish, help them get ready for prom and then watch them have the time of their lives at prom. Watching them laugh and get excited is so heartwarming to see.”

Another highlight was participating at TNT Adult Fitness program. “The first time I went to TNT, I was a little scared because I had no idea how I was supposed to participate. But, after seeing the person I work with bouncing around like crazy with the biggest smile on her face,  I joined right in.  At that moment, I couldn’t help but feel that I really belonged at CCRI! At that moment I realized how much  I truly enjoyed what I do! I get to make peoples’ days while being a part of something bigger.  What’s more to love?”

“I am CCRI and I love the people I support . They are like my family!”
